If you’re reading this outstanding blog of Tom’s, there’s a good chance you’re considering a move to Northern Nevada.  I’ve been here since moving up from California in 1968 and have witnessed a great number of changes in the Truckee Meadows.  What hasn’t changed however, is that it’s still a great place to live, work and recreate.  This is home,  I love it here and I know you will too.

This contribution is meant to address commercial insurance concerns in Nevada, and in particular, Northern Nevada.  There are some subtle differences in property and casualty insurance here, but where companies relocating can really experience improvement to their bottom line is  in our Nevada Worker’s Compensation Insurance requirements.  Not only are our rates lower than most of the states on our borders, but the payroll rating basis is capped at $36,000. 

Let me give you an example of how much one of my customers save each year on just one classification found in their worker’s compensation policy.  They moved their operation up from Southern California about 15 years ago and have never looked back.  This company fabricates sheet metal designed for interior casings found in a very popular type of machinery here in Northern Nevada.  As a result of the cap on Nevada payroll,  the rating basis for their “Metal Goods Mfg” is lowered from $3,000,000 to $2,000,000.  The annual premium savings over what might be paid in California amounts to approximately  $124,500…and that’s just for the one shop labor classification!  Most classifications applicable to Nevada Worker’s Compensation Insurance are lower than those found in neighboring states.
